The Hero. Or the Villain. Of Your Own Story.

The Choice Is Made Daily

by Verla Wade, Strategic Guide for Real-World Life Decisions

Where Clear Thinking Creates Consequential Leverage

The Story You Are Living: The Author in the Room

One of the most indelible things I've learned in this life is that you must be the hero of your own story. Not because the journey is easy. Because the alternative is costly in ways most people don't fully reckon with until much later.

This is not about self-romanticizing or egotism. Rather, this is the authentic hero who celebrates, perseveres, loves, takes risks, experiences loss, picks him or herself up, and persists.

Not in some dramatic movie kind of way. Rather, through conscious and impactful decisions made daily.

The decision to prioritize self-care.

The decision to keep going even when life gets challenging.

The decision to continually do and be your best.

The decision to consistently forgive, express gratitude, and love, both yourself and others.

And repeating it again and again.

It might look like this: 3 am, the house is still, your mind is anything but still, now wide awake. A decision you made is unraveling in real time, or at least that's how it feels. You replay it. You second-guess it. You wonder, briefly, if you've been the author of your own undoing. And then, somewhere in the stillness of that moment, something steadier surfaces. Not answers. Not certainty. Just the reminder that you have been here before, and you found your way through. That is not a small thing. That is the hero doing exactly what heroes do, showing up, even at 3 am, even in the dark.

The Journey Has Fine Print: Heroes Don't Always Know the Way

The reality is this: the choice between multiple paths is part of the journey, and sometimes the path we chose, in hindsight, was not the best one.

Was that an error? Not necessarily. Especially if we adjust our course, learning from the newly acquired knowledge, gaining understanding and wisdom through the experience.

Each of us faces challenges. That's part of living and the human experience. You will experience moments when you question yourself, your decisions, and feel alone. These moments do not determine the ultimate outcome. Rather, they are integral in shaping, molding, and influencing your destiny.

What matters most is that you never walk away from yourself, your values, or your principles.

It is true that in this life, you can be misunderstood. People you deeply care about can leave. What you do with this and how you respond are up to you. When you continue to believe in yourself, when you continue to rise, resilience grows inside you.

And this kind of strength can never be taken away.

Every conscious choice builds the muscle. That is not metaphor. That is how character is actually constructed.

The World Is in the Story Too: You Are Not Writing Alone

Look around. You can feel it, the low hum of collective uncertainty, the sense that something large is shifting beneath the surface. Many individuals are facing immense challenges right now: personally, socially, professionally. These issues are occurring worldwide. A recalibration is currently underway.

Through all of it, every single moment of it, you consistently possess YOU.

And your story remains far from complete. Each day is a new page. How do you choose to compose it?

Sit with that. Then consider this:

What is one decision the hero of your story would make today that you have been putting off?

Here is what you can do right now. Start with today's page. Just today. Choose one thing today that the hero of your story would do. Not tomorrow. Today. One conscious decision, made well, is enough.

The Hero Holds the Pen: The Wrap

Listen to your inner knowing. It will guide you. And the best news? It's yet to come, because you are writing this story. YOU are the one holding the pen, authoring your DESTINY.

Thank you for being here, and until we meet again…
