The shortest month of the year —
and I find myself asking...
Is it still February?
Yes.
Yes, it is.
It is still February.
This is the month that feels as though it has been unfolding since before December.
The Christmas decorations and lights are packed away for another year.
And motivation seems to have gone with them.
Rain.
Mud.
Snow.
Slush.
All of it is beginning to feel like permanent personality traits.
Not quite winter enough to enjoy the hush of fresh snow and a cozy fire-lit evening.
Not quite spring enough to plant seeds — literal or metaphorical — with confidence in what is ready to grow.
Just damp.
Wind.
Air colder than the temperature suggests.
February is the month when:
Accounts and credit cards are still recovering from December’s enthusiasm
Receipts and records are gathered and reviewed in preparation for March 15
Fingers and toes never quite feel warm
Important life decisions are reconsidered in the grey dawn light
And yet — you continue showing up for what is yours to do
And perhaps that is the point.
It is transition time.
The Solar New Year has come and gone.
The “new year, new me” energy has quieted.
Now we move by the Moon’s rhythm.
The Chinese Zodiac ushers in the Lunar New Year.
February is quite resilient.
Mud on your shoes. Coffee in hand. Preparing your taxes. Doing it anyway.
If there is weariness in this stretch of grey, you are not alone.
But here we are.
Still in February.
Still living.
Still loving.
Still strengthening the steadiness that carries forward.
