đź”´Â Blood Moon Viewing Reminder
Early Morning — March 3
In the early hours of Tuesday, March 3, the Moon will move fully into Earth’s shadow during a total lunar eclipse.
For approximately 58 minutes, it will glow a deep copper-red.
This happens when the Sun, Earth, and Moon align precisely, with Earth in the middle. Sunlight bends through our atmosphere and filters onto the Moon — scattering blue light and leaving red behind.
In effect, the Moon is illuminated by every sunrise and sunset occurring on Earth at that moment.
Across the United States — from the Pacific coast before dawn to the Atlantic coast as morning approaches — millions will have the opportunity to witness it.
No special equipment is required. Just clear skies and a little patience.
If You Plan to Watch
Check the cloud forecast tonight & consider preparing a thermos with your favorite warm morning beverage
Set your alarm and wake up early
Dress warmly (early March air still carries winter)
Step outside somewhere dark & allow your eyes to adjust
Look low in the west. Find a spot with a clear western horizon if your view is blocked
Watch the moon turn red - binoculars might make it better
Capture the moment if you’d like
For East Coast viewers, just before sunrise, some locations may experience a brief Selenelion — when both the rising Sun and the eclipsed Moon appear above the horizon at once. It’s a rare optical effect and doesn’t last long.

You can watch it symbolically.
You can watch it scientifically.
Or you can simply step outside because it’s rare and beautiful.
I’ll be outside — bundled up — looking up.
If you decide to join me, I’d love to hear about your experience tomorrow — just not before 7:00 AM PST. I may be inclined to snuggle back in for an hour or two.
Visibility increases in more ways than one.
Clear skies.
